Who we are

JournalTechniques is a single-editor publication operated by the site editor (Felix Lindqvist). For privacy questions or any of the requests described below, contact us via the contact page.

What we collect

Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, time on page, general geographic region, device type, referral source). Google Analytics uses cookies and may collect IP addresses (anonymized by default).

Behavioural analytics. We use Hotjar to record anonymized session recordings and generate heatmaps, helping us understand how visitors interact with pages. Hotjar masks form inputs by default. Hotjar is only loaded after you accept cookies — if you reject cookies or do not respond to the consent banner, Hotjar will not load.

Newsletter. If you sign up for the newsletter, we collect your email address. We use it only to send the newsletter and we do not share it with third parties. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email.

Contact form. If you contact us through the contact form, we receive your name, email, and message. We use it only to reply to you.

Advertising data. We display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites on the internet. See the Google Ads Policy for details on how Google uses information from sites that use their services.

Cookies and consent

The site uses cookies for analytics, advertising, and basic functionality. On your first visit you'll see a consent banner asking your permission to set non-essential cookies (analytics and ads). You can change your choice at any time from the banner or from the cookie controls on our Cookie Policy page.

We implement Google Consent Mode v2, which means: if you reject cookies (or have not made a choice), Google's analytics and ad services will be loaded in a privacy-preserving mode that does not store personally identifying data on your device. Ads may still serve in this mode, but they will be non-personalized.

If you are in the EU, UK, or California, you have the right to:

  • Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Ask us to delete your data (right to erasure)
  • Ask us to stop processing your data
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent at any time (for processing based on consent)

To make any such request, contact us via the contact page. We respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EU, your national DPA; in California, the California Privacy Protection Agency).

Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

For visitors in the EU and UK, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Consent — for analytics cookies, advertising cookies, and newsletter subscriptions
  • Contract / legitimate interest — for responding to contact-form submissions and providing the core site functionality
  • Legitimate interest — for basic anonymous usage statistics, fraud prevention, and security

Data retention

We retain analytics data for as long as Google Analytics holds it (default 14 months). We retain newsletter subscriber emails until you unsubscribe. We retain contact-form messages for up to 12 months after the conversation concludes, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.

Children

JournalTechniques is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

International data transfers

Our third-party providers (Google, Hotjar, Vercel) may transfer data outside your country of residence, including to the United States. These transfers are protected by Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will note the change date at the top and bottom of this page. Material changes affecting EU/UK visitors will also be announced via the consent banner.
